Well it would seem the cause is not down to piston rings or valve stem oil seals, it's actually down to a leaking rocker cover gasket... 
How much/long do you think it would take a garage to sort? Was thinking of getting it done the same time as it's service this month.
I would do it myself but well... I just can't be arsed! 
Also, it's leaking from the cam belt end of the engine, I removed the cam belt cover and fired up the engine and I could see it sort of seeping down, would the leaking oil in that area fuck something up?

Rocker cover gasket? Isn't that like 20 mins work if that?
Warm the engine up slightly to keep warm

I was having great fun yesterday morning. I removed the airbox but one of those metal clips dislodged itself and got caught somewhere in the fan belt, so I had to crank the engine (but not start it) so that it would fall on to the floor, which it did, was worried I'd have to get a new fan belt because of the clip shredding it or something!
Then I noticed a load of oil on the air con thingymajiggy and followed it up to the corner of the rocker cover.

if its 20xe,
gasket is £30, sealant is £5
remove all rocker cover bolts, remove plug cover and the 2 bolts in there, remove the ht leads
lift the cover off with the gasket attatched,
then clean base of the rocker cover after removing the gasket,
clean head where the gasket fits as well
apply thin layer of sealant on the head and all around the cam belt end and dizzy end
apply sealant in thegroove ontop of the gasket, put to gasket onto the rocker cover,
lower the rocker cover onto the head
make sure gasket is seated all around nicely
do rocker cover bolts up 3/4
then tighten them all up when all are in and the gasket and cover located perfectly
put the ht leads back in , put the plug cover on
go make yourself a cup of tea

It's an X14XE, Brad.
I changed one once before, but it was on an OHV engine in a G reg Ford Escort 1.3L!

they're slightly more tricky, getting the hose off the throttle body is the cuntish bit, then just take the top of the inlet manifold off and follow the same proceadure as b4,

Mine looks straightforward because in the Astra the throttle body is mounted on top of the inlet manifold, not on the back right hand side of the engine like in the Corsa/Tigra.
