Nope, you take your car on track cos presumably you enjoy it? Thats why I do it anyway and to be honest it doesnt matter what car you take on to enjoy it (to a certain degree anyway!)
The original discussion was that a FWD hatchback isnt an all round match for a Jap 4WD rally rep. Yeah it may do the odd thing slightly better than it (in this case it gets between 140 and 160 quicker........great!) but as an all round package (accelleration/handling/braking/grip/top speed etc) it hasnt got a chance in France.
You say a track like Brunters supports a fast FWD as it has long straights and few bends.............how come you cant even see the Evo then after those few bends. The 2 seconds the RST makes up by doing 160mph to the Evo's 155mph doesnt count for anything around the rest of the track where the evo makes minutes!!! Demonstrated perfectly when both cars get round the bend at the top of the track, the Evo gets its power down better and out guns the RST, the RST then doesnt make an inch on the Evo down that short straight and then..............theres that dreaded word again 'corner'
Hope that clears things up!

i think the 4wd and clever electronics in the evos etc are of real benefit in wet/gravel or loose surfaces, snow etc
In the dry i dont think there would be massive differences, yes there will be difference but not huge aslong as the FWD car has been properly modified!
I have had a 99 impreza and a let gsi corsa with coilovers, strut braces, 4 pots etc and was running circa 260bhp and in the dry point to point around roundabouts and bends etc there was not that much difference.
the scoob gives you huge amounts of confidence but aslong as you know what your doing then they would be close?

Unless the handling of a standard Subaru is massively different to my P1 then Im afraid you are mistaken.
I had a 2.1 Corsa on throttle bodies with all the suspension mods you could throw at it (as well as a cage)...........the handling could only be described as 'dangerous' at best! Corsas that retain their standard engines are miles better but still cant be compared to Evo's/Subaru's

I used to own yours mate aswell and the let corsa i had defo handled better than it! IMO
the scoob was great and is defo a miles better package, all im saying is that round a track with a good surface in the dry i dont believe there would be that much difference with 2 good drivers, good tyres on both etc!
why not arrange a race between you and Tim and then there would be no debate

An arm wrestle would be better LOL
If were ever at the same track day then a comparison could be made...
I've been in both FWD and AWD cars driven very hard. Of course the AWD car will corner better. But not as much as is made out! But on a smooth dry track, dont underestimate a FWD car!
A twisty B-road... not a prayer mind.
