As you may or may not know, I have a 5dr mk3 Astra with standard suspension and the standard 15" 6 spoke Vauxhall alloys with 195/55/15 tyres.

Basically I want to improve the handling on it, as it's a bit boat-like at the moment so I was thinking, aside from lowering it say 40mm on decent springs/shocks and replacing the front lower arms/bushes etc., would it be better to use lower profile tyres as well, i.e. 195/45/15?

I don't want to get new wheels as I want to keep the exterior as standard looking as possible, but with my current size profile tyres, they seem to sag (yes there is air in them before any smart cunts make a comment about that).

will help as the side wall will flex less, so there is a bigger contact patch on the road. You will be lossing some ride quality though.

I'm not too bothered about ride quality that much as I just want the car to handle well, especially when cornering at speed etc.

Hmmm... Euro-look...

A expensive set of tyres will be more effective han a cheaper low profile tyre IMHO.

Well I've got 4x Falken ZE512s, admittably not the best money can be, but certainly not the cheapest (or the crappest).

But even with the old tyres that were on there before, they seem to sag as well, so I thought that going to a smaller profile tyre would be better for handling purposes (with lowering as well).
