ok,

have basically got a mortgage for 157k agreed from Northern Rock. Before they can finalise it though they need the name of our solicitor.

Gonna use the one that my parents used for their house purchase, just not sure what to say to them.

I know they need to do the conveyancing (sp) on our new home but not sure how to word it don't want to come across as a d!ck

any help much appreciated

Just ask them for a quote for conveyancing. Thats it - they will give you a price for everything broken down.

Then get your wallet out

Conveyancing on mine eventually came in at £1900

Yeah - thats about right for the solicitors fees but then they factor in your stamp duty, surveys and searches etc to bring it to the final total.

Cleaned me out of years of savings

the money they charge you for doing the searches, and what the searches actually cost to do is......interesting.
