check there is no play in the shaft
and the cv joint is not noisy
if thats the case its just the clip on the rubber boot thats gone

ill have a look after ive had some dinner,

how can i tell if the cv joint is noisy though?

and if there is no play and dont make any noises is it just a case of pulling that rubber bit back over and doing the clip up tighter? maybe a cable tie on it or something?

or does something else need to be done?

thats the shaft u said popped out before wasnt it (passenger side) as i said to u the cv doesnt seem like a normal cv as they usually have a circlip to hold the shaft to the cv where as urs didnt look like it did and the cv is on somesort of roller bearings instead of balls like normal cv's
