how much do you want to spend again mate.if you want a mkiv golf a would try and stretch the budget abit more as 100k is quite alot of miles.the engine will be sweet but the running gear will start to show it's age.do you not like the seat leons.they can be had for not much money

Its obvious Mav is looking for a family sized car and having a family it ruled out Scoobys and expensive to run cars.

Safety is obviously an Issue as well as cost of motoring. Have a look at the focus mate it seems the best all rounder for what you need. Altho a Volvo T5 would be
