Right on my laptop I only have on euser area on xp which is my own. When I used to turn my laptop on it used to start up straight to my user area without having to click the image next to my name where you would see the list of other users if there was any.
Recently though it's just gone to this screen till I click and I was wondering if anyone knew how to change it back to how it was?

Thanks

Do you turn it on from off or take it out of standby when you turn it back on?

I turn it on from off and it used to do it. I know it always does it when you just shake the mouse after it's gone to standby or you hit the power again depending on how long you left it for.

By the way Dave what you told me I did and it still stopped at the main scren with the username on. Do I need to change anything else?
Maybe Ian knows he must be knowledgeable re: computers.

Do you have to save the registry editor or is it conflicting with what i've done in services.msc as each time the binary for AutoAdminLogon changes from 1 to 0 thereby meaning it won't automatically log in

I wouldn't have touched services.msc at all unless it only happened after you turned something off in there.
Did you install any windows updates?
.NET framework creates a new user.
Go in and delete all other users and it should log in automatically.

there's no other users on the user log in screen just mine. Although I'm pretty sure I went on the other day and got all the updates critical or not and I think .NET framework was one.
I will go back into services.msc and change it back then see what happens

After you install .NET framework, it adds another user to the system, which is invisible. If i recall, its called .NET USER or something. Go to control panel, and then User accounts, and delete the .NET profile. If this doesnt work, go into safe mode (hit F8 or F2 when booting up) and log in as administrator. Do the same process.

Dont worry, nothing will happen. I deleted mine ages ago
