Why is it that my Corsa B, 1.0 12v, grp 2 worth £1000, costs £600 more to insure than a 1.2 16v Corsa C worth about £4-5k. Both have the same levels of security and both are poverty spec.... It's silly. The C is even 1 group high on insurance

We were on about this the other day at work.

I reckon its cos although they are small engine cars etc, when an insurance company see's a young person driving a small car they wll know that they are a new driver, therefore more likely to crash (in there opinion anyways) so they put the price up.

Probs nothing at all like that but thats my take on it anyways

Also a new driver is less likely to buy a 4.5k car.

Its down to loads of other factors such as cost of repair, level of security etc. Older cars are seen to get used and abused and have poorer security where as newer cars which are safer tend not to be in crashes and well maintained most are CAT 2 minimum now etc. This was from the mouth of an ex g/f who works for an underwriters.

My dad was paying 600tpft on a Cav LS for a while worth 500 at the most

Few months ago he got a Focus ST170 and with me my mum and himself it came to 330 FC with the same insurer.

Also top tip is when comming to buy insurance always buy at the end ofthe month as brokers have targets to meet and will take money off to ensure a deal is made
