Depends how long they have been teaching for and whether they have any 'management' points or extra responsibilities such as head of a department, co-ordinator etc. Also, lecturers at Uni get more than teachers.
You start on about £18,500 and it goes up approx £1000 a year from there for a basic teacher.
Sounds like he has been doing it a while.

Teachers and uni lecturers are completely different. Lecturer can make loads especially if they consult in the industry, or do some cutting-edge research...

All my lecturers at uni used to write books and they became the core text book for the module - thats a nice extra earner

I am tempted to become a lecturer in a college or uni, but have only started working full time recently so need some experience etc.

Uni lecturers can be on well over 50k a year standard, and then they have all the nice little side earners which can make them a fair bit!

Teachers make fuck all because they don't do anything usefull. Being a teacher is like stacking a shelf in Tesco's, but you need a degree to do it. Being a Lecturer involves free thinking and research so they deserve to be millionairs.

I spent a bit of time with a prof @ liverpool uni business mgmt school where everyone is doing masters etc, the prof was doing some work for us and earning in excess of £10k for a few days work but I suppose uni gets some and he gets some

Ive got a couple of mates who are teachers (both Primary and Secondary) and both of them work hard, infact Im amazed at the amount of work they have to do outside of school.
They may well have a set curriculum they have to teach, but the work that goes into lesson plans, etc. is more than you would think!
