open the passenger side door, if im not mistaken theres a switch thing on the side of the dash which needs to be turned with a coin.....i may be wrong just a thought

Is it in the glovebox? Or is there a hatch/ash tray anywhere with it in? Short of that, why don't you read the fucking owners manual?

in the mk3 need a new resistor to do it.
why want to switch it off? to remove the wheel? i jus unscrewed it and took it off

mk4 gold have a deactivation kit (part number 1j0 998 202 ? i think
it comes as a kit whcih desconects the airbag and brings on the illuminated sign, also it comes with a certificate thats shows its been turned off, which is th eimportant bit

Yes, to deactivate one you will require approx £15,000 worth of VAS 5051 diagnostic machine, plus the deactivation kit (about £40). You remove the centre console and glovebox, disconnect the airbag whilst following the prompts from the 5051 and insert the resitance unit in the airbag loom (dependant on software version) if required, and then tidy the wiring, refit everything, fill out the kit enclosed deactivation certification in triplicate and forward to the necessary parties and Bob's your uncle
Oh, and don't forget to tell your insurance company
