Plan on split charging yelow top from boot, and slinging a corsa diesel battery in the front.

This jobby here ---->
doesnt really look like you could feed 0awg through it...

CAD Value Split Charge Relay

180A Split Charge Relay

A secondary battery needs to be installed with a split charging relay. Split charging power relays can be set to operate manually or automatically. When switched on, the split charging relay will charge both batteries simultaneously.

The CAD Value range comprises a selection of low cost, high performance products sourced by Car Audio Direct. These items are often manufactured by leading name brands but are supplied without any frills to save you money.

hmph. i want it to work automatically so once its in, it just 'works'. doesnt need any more help from me.

If any one has any idea about anything on this topic, (wiring diagram, etc) it's much appreciated

the CAD package just uses ring terminals to bolt it to the relay, so if you were doing it yourself then thats what i would recommend.

although if doing it yourself i would place a "chunky" switch somewhere, just incase you want to turn it off.

Its a piece of piss to set it up.

You use ring terminals to connect 0 awg to it.

To operate the relay automatically, you need to connect the positive trigger wire to an ignition live, that goes dead while the starter motor is turning (eg one for your blowers)

If you want to operate it manually, you take an ignition live to a switch, then from the switch to the relay. You dont have to use an ignition live but id advise it so you dont accidentally leave the relay on.

No, the charge relay will only have the +0awg wires.

There are two ring connectors which you connect the 0awg to (one lead from your battery or alternator to the relay, then the other lead to the boot), then you have two spade connectors, one for an earth and one for a live to activate the relay

You don't really need to run 0awg wire from the main battery to the secondary battery though do you?

with only these wires, how does it know when to charge the second battery? Or does it just 'know' and works, and i dont need to question it

It will charge the second battery all the time, your alternator determines the load.

i've jus got an in-line 140A circuit breaker going to my 2nd battery... my 100A alternator never seems to disagree chargin em both 95% of the time
Didnt see the point in getting a split charging relay, dunno if it would have worked so well in my set up

what size does the 2nd battery need to be? i already have a calcium corsa diesel battery up front, but will be running a dvd system with 2 amps, sub and components. just wanted to leave the ignition on whilst watchin a film or with the system on without having to worry about starting the car!
