not worth it

Wait until xmas and the powerPc Macs will (hopefully) be a lot lot cheaper with the introduction of the intel processors next spring

Although the small mac machines are far from powerful and a lot of people say they are just mail/browsing machines And apply screens arnt worth the cash either, rather a samsung thats 10x better for similar cash

As for the photo, unless youre going to be using it for photos, then i wouldnt bother, save hundred quid or so and get a normal jobby

Wait until the final builds of macos come to intel. You can already run it on your original pc. It'll soon become apparent whether macs are actually any better than pc's.

to a certain degree yes - but again, intel pc and mac processor wont be 100% identical.
But eitherway, PowerPc chips are still a lot better and i doubt you will see much difference between a 2.7GHz powerpc chip and a 3gig intel etc especially as the RISC system is a lot better than CISC

eitherway, i wouldnt wait until intel macs, they will be bloody expensive - and they will start to sell of powerpc stock toward xmas time (from what i gather) so, you could pick up a nice little dual 2.7gig G5

They are gonae be identical from what i've read so far. Just use a trusted whatever chip to confirm its a mac. And of course it'll only have drivers for mac approved stuff.

RISC isn't necessarily better than CISC, and modern chips are a combination of the 2 anyway.

modern processors are CISC - and there are more advantages of RISC over CISC which tbh was created from pure lazyness (less lines of code to do an operation but requires more processing cycles to perform the operation).
Reason why RISC was never made popular was because of the price of RAM back in the 70s (RISC requires more storage for operations unlike CISC processors due to storing values) - but now, if you had a RISC processor like IBM's PowerPc and piled it with a few gigs worth of a decent ram, it will out perform a CISC system - hands down (in terms of straight line power)

Thing is though, there has yet to be any benchmark software that you can run on both platforms, so its all a bit difficult to prove. And from what ive heard, intels 3gig processor are on par with the 2gig processors of IBM. And, apple/intel will be using emulators to run previous RISC software, which in its current form doesnt seem to work 100% and infact is slower than previous macs.

and yes, intel processors will have DRM (i believe) and only certain hardware will work with the processor/OSX etc etc Though give it a few months after being released and you will beable to run OSX on a pc and windows on a mac etc

Eitherway, only good thing thats coming out of this is that i can hopefully get a nice dual 2gig G5 for not a lot of money (which i want for music production)

dom how you can say mac's arent powerful is byond me, it would depend on what spec he got,and for a grand he could get a lot. you have to remember when comparing speeds although the mac has a lower spec on paper, they are more efficient and therefore to compare a mac to a pc you should double its speed to get the picture
