ive only got one main telephone connection in my house, so i run a splitter from downstairs, up to my room. i put the microfilter on my one upstairs, but if the phone downstairs is lifted up, it disconnects me from the net. but if i put a microfilter also on the connection downstairs, it wont even connect me to the net so atm i can only use the phone upstairs, this has to be fixed!

All adsl comes down your normal phone cable.
It uses higher frquencys than phonecalls.
In reply to the original question, you most likely haven't got the filters set up properly.

Put the splitter in the socket downstairs, in one socket put the extension cable and in the other the micro filter. From the micro filter (still downstairs) plug in the phone. Then upstairs plug in the other micro filter and then the modem into that. WILL WORK!

what you should do is put a microfilter on the main one, then split off the tel output of that to your downstairs and your extension. Then put a microfilter on the extension - plug phone in one side, ADSL in the other
