That system is capable of handling anything for the next 3 years easy without an upgrade actually

i highly doubt that, as James said, that machine is capable of being top of the field for a few years easily. almost makes the rediculous price tag justifiable

Yes Ross like me i am well accustomed to gmax, so i am the first to know about the needs of high-end development software, and i manage with a paltry 512mb. 1GB is more than enough for gaming and CAD/CG design

I think I'm doing the wrong course at uni. My course (computer science) is full of people like you guys who are like 'wow man ... this is one killer spec pc'...
I'm just like... Give a shit, providing it does what I want it to do I don't care.
What's the point in spending ££££ on getting the absolute best and latest (when it's not needed at the moment), when you could have a middle spec pc that could be had so much cheaper and still do the same (as you wouldn't need the power of the other)... Then when your middle spec pc is getting a bit slow, just upgrade it to the 'at that time' middle spec gear...
just saw this on one of those sites
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1825239,00.asp
That makes me laugh, is it the same for geeks to have a super quick computer as it would be to have a super quick car?
Like if I turned up in a ferrari 430 to a cruise, being the same as if you turned up with that pc at a geek meet.

there is no denying that you would be totally mad to buy a PC for that price, like you said it is better to buy a mid-way system and then upgrade as time goes on. However, running 2xAMD Athlon64's and 2 7800's with air cooling is not to be sniffed at, since similar Intel systems require passive water cooling to bring temps down.
I believe that if i had a lot of money, i would not faff around with buying lame midmarker machines and having to worry about future upgradability, i would pull out all the stops and buy one these.
Certainly would make life easier rather than having to find PC2300 DDR RAM
