the weightt difference between the 20xe and c16xe/x16xe is marginal and you hardly notice it. Its an urban myth tey hand bad as mine is just fine (isnt it JR?)
If its track orientated then yeah go for thr 1.6 I would. But how often do you chuck it about on public roads? therefore the Xe is better for road driving and returns 30mpg rather than sub 25 in a tuned 1.6

a tuned 1.6 is good, set of throttle bodies management and decent cams will see it over 160bhp, its more of a car you need to drive, be aware of what gear your in etc! in a 2ltr you dont need to be on the ball so much as it has the torque, it will pull from lower down the revs etc, i took the tuned 1.6 route because i wanted to see what the engine could do, rather than wasck a 2ltr in and say woooo 154bhp im super cool!

If its just the power upgrade your after then £ or £ you cant beat the 2ltr transplant, to get the same kind of power from a 1.6 you'll need to spend a lot of cash and it still wont have the same amount of torque as the 2ltr

hrm.. disagree a bit there... a 1.6 on trottle boddies should beat a standard 2.0... the torque may be smaller on paper but power delivery should be beter...
