Hiya guys

I just reloaded windows 2k back on to my laptop. all was hunky dory, installed zone alarm straight away to keep the pesky little bugs away.
Now though whenever i start my laptop all i get is my wallpaper, no start menu and no desktop icons?
Has anyone got the foggyest to why i have this problem?

try booting in safe mode, see that happens, look on google if you dont know about safe mode.

It basically runs very simply.

Never thought of that, cheers mate.
Im on the Microshaft website downloading all the latest service packs and what not, never know with the operating system being more than 5 years old something could of killed it straight away!

i would try that but i cant bring up the desktop propeties and still doesnt allow me to view the taskbar either.
does anybody know the exe file for the taskbar?

yes, try doing ctrl-alt-del then goto task manager then do file, New Task then type explorer.exe and see if anything comes up

start in safemode and do a system restore to before zonealarm is installed its crap anyway messes up the tcpip stack
