I've just done a job on a mates UK spec 944 S2 & would like to know roughly how much it would have cost him to have a garage do it (then I can work out how many pints he owes me!!)

From buying the car, the sunroof would open, but not close.. Several local garages looked at it & put the problem down to the switch. He replaced the switch several times, and they still insisted this was the problem (each time charging him for the pleasure!)

He then took the car to have some bodywork done & the guy offered to "disable" the roof, by removing all its working components, bar the motor itself. He then cable-tied the roof shut & presented him with a box full of parts!!

My friend then began to notice a whirring noise coming from the back of the car whilst he was driving & finally asked me to take a look at it.

I found it to be the electric sunroof motor, turning whilst the car went over bumps & round corners. I searched the car & found a shorted/broken wire. I repaired the wire & then proceeded to re-assemble the workings of the sunroof, resulting in a fully functionable sunroof.

Having had no prior experience working on these cars, the whole job took approx 4 hours, but I assume a qualified garage would take less time.

Any ideas what it should have cost him?

Thanks,
Stu
