Im looking at buying a brand new car for work & being a Vaux-head im quite keen on the new Astra sport-hatch. I will be traveling a fair few miles a week (approx 600 p/w).

I'm trying to find who does the best price new for these, been to a couple of dealers locally & the difference in price is quite a bit. Here is the model/spec im looking at & prices i've been quoted:

Astra Sport-Hatch 1.7 TDCi Design Model with metallic paint:

Reg Vardy £13995
Smiths £15300

£14k seems quite a lot to me for a 1.7 diesel, ok so its got quite a good package with 16's, part-leather trim, fogs & few other bits but still...

Anyone bought a new Astra, how much did you pay? Anybody work in Vauxhall? Im in the Trade Club so should get a fair bit of discount on the dealer servicing etc.

would rather get the vetrca if you can afford it, more room and the twin turbo diesel has some quite impressive stats

my fella works at a vaux garage & he says they have the exact same model on their showroom for over £16k.
Have u tried to get anything knocked off those prices yet? You can often get £2k knocked of if you take out vauxhall finance & look out for promotions such as an extra discount for trading in a none vaux etc..

Vectra is too big for what I need, I need someting that will be very cheap to run (ie NOT a VXR) & it will be mainly A roads & towns/city centre. It will be used for Bailiffing.

TBH, £14 is £2.5k off the list price of one, so its not bad going.

Try on here (example is the sxi 1.7 CDTi, but they do the desig for a little over £14k too).

Also depends how much you want the new shape astra. The older ones with the same engine, most likely a similar spec, and sub 10k miles (Many have about 5k!), are going for less than £9k! Worth alook anyway if you can live with it not being a brand spanker .

Will have to try them, whats this pre-registered business? Spoke to Smiths Vauxhall today, they can do me a brand spanker in the spec/model I want for £13.5K BUT they say its registered to Smiths for 3 months & then it gets registered to my name - whats that all about?

Means that it was a demo car or something like that...

Just means its got another owner on before you so is technically not a brand new car...

Right my mate had this with His CTR. Got it brand new from a honda dealer for £15k! Basically it looks better for the company if there turning over cars quicker, and selling their monthly quota of cars. They sell more, they get more discount etc. They'll make very little on the car they sell you, but will sell more cars, as they can usually undercut everyone else.

Why they keep the log book for 3 months i dont, know, but that seems the norm (must be some legal reason or something). You'll get a brand new car - his had 11 miles on the clock but when you come to sell it, you'll be the second owner on the logbook. Deffinatly worth doing for the benifits you get .
