Err, the cable has gone slack (I know why) but I can't get into the engine bay to rectify, how do I open it from underneath?

You need to access the catch, I done a nova the other day, nice and easy with no grille on but you will have to get to the back of the slam panel or carefully unclip your grille

grab the slack cable with molegrips from inside the car. pull slowly but hard whilst someone puts pressure down on the bonnet by the catch. should pop up.
