i think it refers to some saftey films being legal. any film which tints will be illigal. you will need tinted glass rather than films

Actually there are other legal types
Its the size that matters. Halfords sell only legal plates and there 4 different types of letters you can use

From 1 September 2001 all new number plates must display the new mandatory font

Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001 need not be changed provided the character font used is substantially the same as the one shown above.

Number plates must be replaced if they have been customised with:

Stylised letters and/or figures such as italics
Number plate fixing bolts that alter the appearance of the letters and/or numbers

all taken from the dvla site.

point 1:

the plates look cheap and tacky, get some normal ones, loose the tack font and graphics and it will look 100 times better and legal

point 2: any film is not illegal forward of the B pillar. a normal window will let about 75% of the light through without any tint. fact. and some car glass (like BMW X5) lets less then 70% BUt its factory fitted and not an actual tint

point 3

yes a girl might of got stabbed or whatever, but when someone pulls out at night and dont see you comming becuase of his dark tints, runs you over, then drives off and you cant quite read his number plates and he gets away with it, then ull see why they pulled you in the first place

You chose to have illegal stuff on your car so should deal with the consequences. I have an illegal font on my number plate, i wouldn't start maoning if they pulled me though. I'd moan if they pulled me and gave me a 1500 quid fine which they are able to do as that would be alitlle over the top but just getting pulled should be expected.

BMW X5 will not have tint/glass less than 70% on the windscreen, they arent gonna make all there vehicles illegal and dangerous are they

if bmw were allowed to do it it would make a joke of that particular law and would throw any cases straight out of court
