I've got some really good clutch & brake cleaner thats good for this sort of job, i aint got a clue what its called tho so not much help.

(remember some clutch & brake cleaners will melt plastic and rubber)

yep had no problems with it, though it probably covers the dirt instead of cleaning i use turtle wax tyre dressing

Who'd you buy them off? Why would anyone want "non-stick" engine hoses

No idea on cleaner.. I'd have suggested the stuff you've already tried.
