Don't know what i'm talking about, anyone know if this makes sense?
In my third year research it is likely that I will go down a more positivist route avoiding personal bias as I prefer a more objective result with less “what if’s” than what are produced through interpretive research. Researching into a subject that brings into play many different factors which are impossible to control means that the reliability of the outcome is always going to be questioned when placed into different scenarios. Whereas taking a more positivist route and researching for example, how one specific thing affects a certain muscle in a persons body will lead to more objective results. As I am the kind of person that always looks at “what if” I feel that interpretive research would mean that I ended up with a massive workload through trying to reduce constraints.

loads of 'what if's' just make it look like you couldnt be arsed to do your research.

there is no avoiding personal bias really in research - all you can do is make you sure your methodology is as vaild as you can. positivist and interpretivist are sociolgical terms - probably best to avoid them if it's not sociology you're doing (unless your institute says otherwise); anyways, this is determined by the data collection methods, which is in part determined by the subject matter/amount of data. 'what if's' are fine as long as you save them for the discussion part of the paper, i.e. implications for future research, factors which may have affected the outcomes, limitations of study etc.

cheers, Thanks for the help.
It's reflection on a research module, in the guidelines it says stuff like
"Is the research positivist or interpretative in nature?
What are the key factors that led you to that decision?
What type of data will be collected?
quantitative, qualitative or combination of both?"
Does the research follow an inductive or a deductive approach?
If deductive in nature, try to identify the underlying theory/ the hypothesis.
which i don't really get much about, and due to not having a clue what i want to do in the third year i'm struggling?!

Where there are questions included that have “Yes” or “No” answers, I wanted to get direct responses. If I allowed the participants to take a route that is not precise, such as, “Not sure”, I may receive results that do not give an accurate perception of the participant’s opinion. Therefore, both open and closed questions are used in my questionnaire.
what about that i used that sentance as part of my dissertation..ope it helps a bit?
