but i have a problem, i want to keep the My Documents folder, as it has all my music, pics and vids etc. buts its over 40gb in size!! i also have a load of applications i have 'bought' that i want to re-install on my pc, so i need to keep these files.

At the moment i have a 180Gb hard drive, split into 130GB and 50GB, xp pro is installed on the larger one. I then also have a separate 20GB HDD for porn

if i was to format my pc, would it delete the partition also? could i theoretically dump all my files onto the 50gb partition, and then copy the files over after?

if i cant do this, im baffles as what to do

yeah if you install xp from the cd it will give you the option to install on seperate partions so you can format which particular partion you want and save the other stuff to the ones you dont want to partision

Yes. You can also actually reinstall so it just deleted your Windows folder and settings and leaves all your other folders as they are.

I'd keep the 20GB HD clear of files and transfer them to the main HD. Then install XP or whatever OS on the smaller drive. Keep this as an OS and limited system files/documents drive.

Then move all the data needed on the larger HD into one partition then format the other. Then move all the data needed back to the 1st now formated partition then format the other.

You can then remove the partition and have a single large HD for all your poRn, music, games etc... or leave the partitions in place and place files at will.
