yer depends what you want if you want a decent road bike over a 125cc and are over 21 then you need to complete a CBT and a Direct Access course, usual take 3-4 days costing anything form £400 upwards.

Bike wise depends what you want most people start with a 400, but the er500 or any other 500 are cheap as chips good to build some no claims up on, then if you want a sports bike or something a little less lairy a fazer or bandit (600's)........ They start around £1500!! Fazer's better build quality that the bandit

Also you need all you leathers, decent helmet, gloves, boots ect £500+ for all that

So its costly too get started.....

Also tests, theroy is £20+ and pratical is £51

yeah innitial costs are a lot,

Firstly I had to pay 100quid for CBT, then 20something quid for theory,

Had 3 2hour lessons at 60quid each

Then a 1 hour lesson before for 30quid, on the day the practical was 51, plus an hours rental for the bike during the lesson (30) plus a lesson before the test (30)...

to give you some idea on insurance, both tpf&T,

my crm250 (enduro bike) was 500quid, my cbr400rr is 650 but have to pay more as its an import... and i'm 21 with 0ncb for bikes, on the pro side its through carol nash and when you insure a bike with them over 350cc (think its 350...) you are insured on any other bike third party

once youve passed its very advisable to buy a good helmet, leathers, gloves boots etc wont scare you with what can be paid for them.....

do it tho, summers coming up and its very cheap for the performance you get, 0 - 60 is about 5 - 6 secs on mine but the powerbands quite high and when it hits that band it stays in it
