Question
Hi Tony.

I have a VW Caddy VAN 1.9 SDI 98 yr

I have recently noticed that my glow plug light flashes when engine is idle for 5 mins or when ignition is on glow light goes out then 30 seconds later it's flashing again. only when I start to drive after 2 mins the glow light stops flashing. Have changed glow plugs but problem is still there. Do you have any sugestions as to what the problem may be. Many thanks for taking time to read.

Answer
Hi very possibly a relay problem in the fuse box. have also come across fuse boxes giving similar problem, but bith items are expensive just to try. The only other possibility is that the sensor for detecting engine temp (which decides if you need plug heat or not) may also be playing up, a good auto electrician with meter would be able to eliminate various things , if you know of one that is. Can't really be of more help, my field was mostly fuel systems.

When you're visiting him, let him know you want a relay too.
I know you get carried away when you're both out dogging.
