went to scotland up the a1 on saturday, and there was about 60 speed cameras in about a 40 mile stretch

what i want to know is... do these cameras get both sides of the road or just one side>? i stuck to 4k revs all the way there (80mph approx- speedo has snapped) but didnt see one of the speed cameras cos it was HIDDEN BEHIND A SIGN and i just hope it didnt get me cos i was doin bout 80 and it was a 70 road ( i think) ill be amazed if i havent got at least 3 points, even tho i never actually had my foot down..... managed to only use half a tank to do 240miles, which i am well pleased about

help please?

Some cameras can be oriented to face in either direction (one camera, lines on both side of the road). No lines on your side, you should be OK. If there were lines, then if it was dual carriageway and you were doing under 75mph, you'll prob be OK. Besides, may not have been film in the camera. It's the same on the A68 going from Northumberland into the Borders. No speed cameras on the English side then zillions as you cross the border. Maybe they're trying to tell us something

if the markings on the road are on both sides it will get both sides, as they can calculate the speed using them to confirm the camera...

if there are no markings on the road, you should be ok as they can't confirm how fast your going...

PaulW-

Gatso Speed Camera
The Dutch company Gatsometer BV supplies speed camera equipment, and has been using radar since 1971. Gatsometer's current radar equipment operates within the 24 Gigaherz-band, which is available worldwide.

How do they work?
Gatso speed cameras are most often found in fixed positions by the roadside on poles. They can also be used on a trailer on a tripod. Fixed installation Gatso cameras are rear facing as they use a 'flash' to photograph the vehicle. They do not flash the front of a vehicle because this would dangerously distract the driver. Sometimes Gatso cameras are reversible and can be turned to face different directions.

The photographs are taken using standard 35mm films with a capacity of around 400 pictures. These films must therefore be changed regularly.

Accuracy
Up to 100 km/h, the margin of error is 2 km/h maximum, above that, 2% of the registered speed - well within the legal margin of error. They are also tested for resilience under all weather conditions: up to 95% relative humidity, and from 15° below zero to 60° above, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The cameras are also equipped with a timer, so that operating times can be limited: to rush hour only for example.

After mid 2004, the new MK2 system will be available for even broader, busier roads. The MK2 will take speed and distance measurements, as well as registering the lane in which a vehicle is travelling. This will make it easy to identify offenders on a busy road.

In the Netherlands Gatsometer products meet all the criteria for police measuring equipment prescribed by the Ministries of Justice and Internal Affairs. Abroad Gatsometer products are officially approved and conform to all relevant national demands. Gatsometer itself has ISO 9001 certification (2000 version).

Double flash
In order to identify vehicles and license plates correctly under all circumstances, Gatsometer camera systems are fitted with more than one flash system. A flash unit inside the camera cabinet or mounted on the gantry briefly illuminates the license plate. The photo then has sufficient clarity and contrast even when taken into the sun. At night a second flash is needed to illuminate the vehicle itself from another angle. The night flash is positioned at the roadside a few metres in front of the camera

If they're on the other side of the road and are normal Gatso's then no you cant get caught by them. The lines on both sides for vehicles overtaking etc whilst passing the camera.

If they are Truvelo's then they can get you if facing you from the opposite side of the road.

As i don't think anyone has mentioned it, a single carriageway is a 60mph limit not 70mph as stated in the original post

As above lines are on both sides to catch people overtaking or tyring to beat the system, Those pics look kike gatso, should be painted yellow as yo aproach them.

no you cant get caught going towards them, only past them, Like AK said there only to catch people overtaking or to mark exactly on the photo to calculate your speed.
