Need to get the alternator pully off... Simple job eh, just undo the bolts... Yea, so I thought.

I went to undo the allen key bolts the idiot fitted before me, I sprayed on loads of WD40 yesterday to try and un jam them, the still rounded because they were so rusted, I drilled the heads off of them, but the person who owned the engine before me also decided to use a bolt that I can only get a spanner on, thats jammed in tight too, no chance of getting it un-done, so I went to drill that too, this bolt ended up being made from carbon stell and is just making my drill bits blunt...

How am I going to get this off??? I really don't want to take the crankshaft off, and I cant get the bolt un-done in the middle of the pully to just take that part off...

Any help PLEASE!

get a decent drill bit Ed.
drill of the heads, then knock the pulley off.
studs should unscrew easily then, using grips.

the splined bolts on the alternator pulley are truley awful, I changed all mine for stainless cap head bolts two weeks after fitting my engine and one of them was still rounded aftero only two weeks on. I got it off by drilling the head a bit to enlarge the hole and hammering in the next size up allen key bit, but yours sounds too far gone for that.

you on about the actual pulley on the alternator, or the bottom crank pulley? if its the latter the middle bolt doesnt need to come out.

If it's hardened steel then a sharp chisel and large hammer will snap it off as the higher the tensile rating of the bolt, the more brittle it will be, give it a good smacking.

As for fixing thread A) buy a new one form autovaux, b) take to engineering shop.

Edd you still want the head rebuilt? I'm free in the week.
