They're very much over supplied so wait a while and the residuals will start tumbling. Like you say, early/high milers are going for 85k (LHD imports) but you need to pay 100k for a good one (and its worth paying the extra come resale time).
Imports are going to be impossible to insure for a young lad unless you can get it on a trade policy.
Theres a couple of guys on Pistonheads who have Gallardos at 21/22 so they might be able to help out there.
For what its worth I wouldn't buy one at the moment and certainly wouldn't buy a LHD model. It'll be nothing but a rapidly depreciating liability come resale time if the current supply/demand equilibrium lasts.
Fantastic cars though. I have never driven one but have been in a couple. Everyone says they're very 'Audi' but IMO thats not all bad. You lose some of the sparkle admittedly (especially compared to the Diable, Countach etc) but they're useable and well bolted together - well as usable as a car can be when doing normal 'average' miles will cost you 15-20k a yr in depreciation alone.
For what its worth, if I was fortunate enough to have the option I would buy a decent Ferrari 355 for 50k and pocket the change. IMO they're more special, undiluted and imperfect. They're also starting to bottom out in terms of residuals so whilst a G is going to cost you £30k over a couple of years in deprecation, the right 355 could cost a fraction of that.
Are you looking to pay cash or on finance?
Can point you in the direction of a good broker who'll sort out the finance and source a car (useful if you're after an import).
