remember this pic which you found when I first got my car???

well I took the rear bumper off whilst dealing with a rusty sill.... and this is pretty much identical to what I was faced with

all cut out and gone now though, with nice shiny new plates welded in its place!!

Off to the bodyshop for spraying this week hopefully...

Replace the arches while your at it. Will give it a new lease of life for 5 years or so, depending on whether you use it in the wet or not.

Rear arches have been done in 1997, found the weld marks along the rear qtr.

they were starting to bubble a tiny bit on the inner lips though, so out with the grinder and off came the dreaded rot!!!

Drivers side front wing and sill were done in 1997 too, got receipts for that.

She now has new sill and front wing in place on nearside of the car, the subframe has been welded up, and patches done on the rear panel bit... must of taken out about 3-4kgs of rust out

used a whole box of sanding discs (20) and two bottles of rust cure to stop the bastid stuff coming back...

just cant wait for the painting to get done now...

cars do hide rust well, i image a few of the corsas on here with gleaming paintwork have rotting somewhere

feels good tho when u sort it out yourself , i love to sand

didn't think you were gonna spend much on it

I have a man who can with a welder

painting is going to be the big cost I think... couple of hundred quid is hardly the end of the world though!

Doing the work myself also means I know its been done properly, no mincing about hiding rust with new panels, we got right in there and ripped it all out!!

As Ollie said, I reckon I have given it a few more years on the road yet.... as long as the engine holds out...

Strip it out totally, interior everything like me, get underneath it remove things.

My car when I took it to Lees had

No engine
No interior
No fuel tank
No fuel lines
No exhaust

It weighed nothing and gave me chance to check for rust and holes and mine had none apart from the battery tray and even then it was'nt that bad.
