I think the specualation about what people who do and dont go to uni earn is just that-speculation. Its fairly impossible to predict as people who get brilliant well payed jobs either in or out of uni tend to know someone or drop very lucky. You could go to uni for 4years and never get a well payed job because theres no call for that job etc, equally you could start working at 16 and never be able to progress any higher in what u do because of a need for qualifications. Theres risks with both, theres generally a chance for most people to go for qualificatons later in life when they need them, but i suppose theres a risk you'll be in a situation where u cant afford to give up full time work. I think the general idea is that you may leave uni to start on no better pay than a school leaver, but progress a lot quicker. I btw have not been to university.

I know a few people who work for Accenture (started as grads)... It's 28.5k as soon as you start, with a 6k 'Golden Hello' when you sign your contract...

These aren't normal 'grad schemes' -- they're chasing the really good people...

Equally, I know someone who got a place on the Aldi Grad Scheme where they instantly put you into an intensive training to become an area manager within 6 months - £45k start and an Audi A4

He's a clever guy though and got a 1st and they work him to the bone. Nice for a 22yr old though

your making yourself out to look quite foolish, did you do that degree or go to that university? have you looked at the statistics which show what people go on to do after completing the degree? Or alternatively did you decide by yourself that it wasnt possible to be earning 30k+ as a 1st year graduate?

I have another 3 years left after this one on my degree!
Its in motorsport engineering. I can take that anyway i want racing, road cars, aerospace pretty much anything. I am doing my placement year at pwr racing in melbourne australia, this will help with experience and possibly future relations with the company for a job after my final year! I hope to be on 25k + when i leave.

2 friends of mine one stuidied my course and graduated last year, he did a placement year at noble and got headhunted by mclaren in his last year! he walked out of uni into a 50k job with compnay cra etc, he now lives in woking and is part of the enigineer team at mclaren.

Another one of mine and brothers mate graduated within degree in economics, now a stock broker in london earning 50k +, he came round at xmas in a 911 turbo and it was a present to him from an investor for making him a few million!

Also richard branson used to poach pheasants on my grandads farm and sell them at market, now look where he is!!

I personally think if you have the initiative you can do well, just like joiners brikcies can earn £600 a week!!

Again tnm you don't have a clue. You must be a crap systems analyst or you wouldn't be driving about in a rusty old mr2.
I spent 20 seconds actually lookin for a job, found 1, tim has backed me up.
You 2 still try and argue although proved wrong more than once throughout this thread.
And my degree is definetely not given out like sweets.
As I said, one of the top 3 most difficult in the uni.

I went because I knew it would be valuable but most of all because it would be enjoyable!

My four years at uni have to be the best four years of my life and now Im working I miss it loads! It was all about the experience for me - the
education was just a part of this. I made loads of mates, had a wicked social life (which I dont now Im working and have to pay mortgage etc) and enjoyed the course too.

It got me a good job at the end of it and to be honest, most of the job adverts in my line of business require a degree. Yeah, I probably could be on the same money now if Id left school at 16 and taken up a trade but I would have missed out on the best four years I have ever had!

If I came into a lot of money now Id seriously consider enrolling for another four years!

THIS IS THE BEST RESPONSE I HAVE HEARD

a degree IMO is not worth what it used to be.. experience is just as good if not possibly better for getting a decent job. Doing a degree shows so much more then intellect and people go to uni for more reasons then increasing their intellect or to get a well paid job. As stated above if you start a job at 16 by 21 most of the time you will end up on the same pay level as someone with a degree with no experience but then there are exceptions like computing and science degrees where you are a specialist and the pay is going to be substantially more as there are few people at that level to do the job

A degree probably pays off better in management jobs, or specialist things like physio or something. or later in life when you want to progress further, but coming just out of uni with no experience it is worth very, very little

Best bet is to study and work at the same time for the best of both worlds but involving a social life around this is not easy at all
