thinking carefully about getting a car, what engines did you all start off with?

i want a 1.4 but i cant help but think that the insurance will be waaaaay higher than on a 1.2

what do u rekon?

I had a 1.3 Golf for 6 months then got a 1.6 GSi!! Wasnt in my own name though!!

thats it you see, im starting on my own insurance..i want a 1.4 16v SRi but its not happening i think..

Yes probably best to start your own as soon as you can really

Or just get something cheap just now and save up for something better & once ins is cheaper!

so what you think, im not getting a 1.0, no chance, i really want a 1.4 16V Sport/SRi

but i was thinking i can make a 1.2 look like a Sport/SRi/GSi inside...hmmm

any thoughts?

How old are you?? 17 / 18?? If I was that age again id run a cheap motor for a few years to get some NCB without paying daft amounts of insurance! Then once things have calmed down and you have saved plenty money get something really fast I know a lad thats 19 has an Evo 8 - started off with a 1.0L pug 106 for a few years - no one laughs at him going past now

A 1.4 16v ain't that bad is it group 6-7 or that...1.6 is group 9

i started on a 1.0, and it was fantastic would go 100 miles if u farted in the petrol tank...
then 1 year later a GSi for roughly same insurance price + original car too at el cheapo cost.
