The government claims that speed cameras are onlly place at locations where there's a high risk of accidents. So if a GPS device that warns you you're approaching such a location, it would be daft not to act on it and make sure your speed is appropriate

They can't ban GPS because of all the other systems tied into GPS.
They want to force people into fitting GPS systems, so they can then buy the information from the US Govt. and easily find out who's been speeding and when - no need for cameras when drivers are transmitting their crimes 24/7

"Yes, your Honour, I was driving along (within the speed limit, of course) when I saw a pebble roll a few millimetres into the road, so I slowed down a little more to allow for greater manoeuverability in case the pebble kept rolling into my travelling path......the fact it was just before a speed-camera is coincidental."
