Okay, as I've been browsing this forum quite a bit lately I have got to learn alot about UK car prices and insurance etc.
This is interesting to me as I am considering moving over your way for 6 - 12 months within a years time!
What I really don't get is the road tax though! Is this something you pay annualy besides your insurance?
I hope someone will take the time and explain the rules to me as I bet they are not as complicated as over here where we have registration taxes, enviromental taxes and 180% of the cars price in car taxes!

Yes, you pay road taxes aswell as insurance.
Mine is 110GBP for a year, but I think it varies on emissions.

Yes its paid yearly alongside insurance. You can tax a car for either 6 months or 12 Cost depends on size of engine

You have to, they even have cameras now that randomly check your tax is up to date - if not expect big fine and car impounded etc

Its just so they know that you have tax just by looking at your car.

Weird... at least in my ears it is!
But besides the fact that you have to display it, it is similar to our annual enviromental tax I believe.

Your tax is 60 for 6months if your car egnine is lower than a 1.4 and £90 for 6month if it is above a 1.4.... i think?? Correct me if i'm wrong anyone...

1549cc or under is £60.50 for 6 months and £110 for a year
Over 1549cc is £90.75 for 6 months and £165 for a year

Worth noting the changes in March 2001, now based on emissions and not just engine size.
My 2003 2 litre turbo Astra is 160.00
My 1993 1.6 Corsa is 165!
