this is why you see all jap cars and stuff with pins to hold them down.

That doesn't make sense - if they are lighter then there is less chance of them flipping up than a standard bonnet, the heavier the bonnet is the greater momentum the bonnet get get. You can flip even a full metal bonnet at 50mph if you have the catch/latch off. If the latch is popped then there is not much difference in speed to get a metal bonnet flipped against a cf ones flipped

The main reason a lot of carbon bonnets flip up are people don't bother with the safety catch - many don't come with the attachment for me (a bit of a joke really) I 'think' all pro-comp ones came with all the fixings.

I don't know of anyone who has flipped a carbon bonnet who has attached the safety catch (yet I know of one metal one that broke the catch), in the SSC that is - think around 15 peoples have flipped open, some just fg instead of cf

What he said makes perfect sense.

Imagine 2 bonnets in a wind tunnel

1 is CF
1 is Standard

Which will blow away first?

obviously the cf one will blow away first BUT

put a safety catch onto them and then get the them into the wind tunnel.
I bet if you could pop the bonnet latch on the cf one and it would just be caught by the latch where as the metal one would snap it, obviously at a certain speed bit would break it

It will lift if its not got any catch but its the snapping of the safty catch that is the problem not it lifting. If you leave off the catch then you are just stupid, bit like going out without a safety belt on
