what do they do and why do people drink them? Proteins to build and repair isnt it? so is that what they do, repair your muscles quicker after a work out?

yes protein is the building blocks for tissue growth and repair.

anyone who weight trains would do well to supplement their diet with protein shakes. I have 2/3 a day thats an extra 90g of protein per day in my diet.

Its damn hard and inconvenient to try and get all that protein from food alone.

I would have to disagree that creatine will actually help with recovery. It will allow you to train at higher intensities. any recovery effect from creatine will be a minimal secondary characteristic from taking it. Something like Glutamine would be better post workout for recovery.

Yes its damn hard to shovel huge amounts of meat down your neck, not to mention all the extra fat you will be consuming.

A decent protein shake has minimal fat and carbs and is easily digested and absorbed.

Depends what your goal is as to what supplement would be best for you. If you're naturally skinny and find it hard to put muscle/weight on then you'd be better off with a supp which has more cals and carbs like a weight gainer or MRP (meal replacement).
I currently consume most of my protein from chicken breasts (6 per day), but use protein supplements too.
I have a MRP first thing in the morning, i find this better than pure whey protein as you're body has been without nutrients all night. I also consume a MRP after training. Throughout the day if needed i'll have pure whey protein shakes and i have another before bed too.
Consume your protein shakes in water, not milk as in water it'll absorb quicker. I'd only ever have a shake in milk before bed so the protein is better utilised.

As you tarin you break the muscle fibres and the natural way for the body to repair them includes the fibres to become bigger when repaired. The protein aids the body by fastening the process, people take it so they can gte bigger etc alot faster. They can go to the gym more times a week without feeling the burn as much

I was naturally 'chunky' and lost a few stone in a really short period, making me naturally skinny as i cant put weight on, no matter what/how much i eat.

I just have mediumly sized meals more regular, instead of having 4 big meals I may have 6 smaller meals every 2/3hours, and a gainer shake in between and an hour before bed.
