DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T PLAY XBOX LIVE, IT'S A WASTE OF YOUR TIME
After receiving my crystal Xbox from Jason2004 (thanks mate :thumbs), I finally got round to installing the Live kit (1 0am this morning ).
I took the network cable out of my computer and stuck it in the xbox, cable didn't exactly click into place but the lights came on and there was a connection being made so i guess it's working.
After subscribing and filling in all the different things, I finally got round to giving Halo 2 a go. I clicked on quickmatch and it seemed to take forever finding a game and then finding suitable players (about 5 mins). Does it usually take this long or is it just for the first time? Once i was in the game however it was really fast and lag wasn't a problem.
I then played Pro Evolution soccer and joined someones game, it was slow as fuck and pretty much unplayeable. After going 2-0 down in the 80th minute i quit the game and lost the match
I joined another game and it was a lot faster but there was still some lag there. (Won 2-0, both goals from Henry )
Is there anything i can do to improve the speed of it? I'm using Internet Connection sharing to get access to the net
Any hints/tips welcome
Cheers
Dave

Which device is being used to share your internet connection? (is it a router or a modem connected into a PC with ICS enabled?)
What is your internet connection? (ADSL/CABLE?)
What is your internet connection speed?
And finally is it possible there is someone/something on your network sucking up all the bandwidth by downloading music/running BitTorrent or simular applications that cripple bandwidth?
Cheers.

yeah, PC downstairs is connected direcly to modem with ICS enabled and standard networking cards/cables.
Net connection is 1mb ADSL
Only 1 other computer was using the connection but it was just surfing pages, no major downloading of games being played whilst i was on.

weird. Maybe I need a direct connection to the modem instead of going through ICS.
Either that or wireless maybe....

It shouldnt be that much of a problem TBH, wireless won't help either you in this situation if its still going through ICS

depends on the conection of the other person too, i verry rarely get lag on a 1mb line, but it does happen sometimes.
if another comp was using the line, you be surprised how much difference it will make, as you have efectivly cut the conection speed in half.
i used to get load of lag on 256k

i generally don't have any issues with lag when playing pc games for example Call of Duty.
All 4 of us could be online at once and have a ping of around 50-70 which is pretty damn good.
Maybe i haven't given myself a chance to find any decent servers yet for Pro Evo, there were hardly any people on last night and nobody wanted to join my game

Get a decent router and save yourself from that ICS shit.
Well, its not bad, but a dedicated router with uPnP would serve you better. We've never had any problems wirelessly accessing Xbox live (no lag etc) frmo a WAP to our wireless router (512k)

we've also got a hub at home but i'm not sure what this is actually used for. Maybe it would be worth going directly into that?

alkready been out as far as i know.
dave just set up your own room and let people who join have lag if you get sick of it. i also find i get a better connection during the day as at noight the yanks must suck up the bandwidth of the world internet or something.
And it's your upload not your download speed that affects it contrary to everyones belief. Not really much difference between a 750 and a meg connection as the upload is normally the same.
