cars been recently not starting intermittently.
most of the time it will start first time off the button, but then others it'll crank and crank for ages, but not fire.
when it does this a bump start usually gets it going, so i'd just been goiing along like that.
today it cut out coming out o a junction. tried starting it again, just turns over and over......
tried bump starting it a few times which did nothing other than toally knacker my mate out

bit the bullet and called the AA. took no time for a van to arrive this time.
he did all the usual checks and finds there's no spark.
first thinks the crank angle sensor wiring is shorting out against something. then plays about with the hall sensor on the dizzy, before popping his head in the cabin and noticing my ecu is dangling.

it's been like that since i did the engine, and i'd not got round to putting it back behind the kick panel.
he has a wee fiddle and gives it another go. fires up straight away.

turns out that the wiring plug had come loose from where the ecu was floating about in the footwell.
how much of a muppet did i feel?

i signed the form and was sent on my way. nice bloke, but he must of thought i was a twat.
getting the kick panel back in is now top of my list of priorities.
