I've been in a Golf VR6, they are very very unstable at the front end with the weight and handle like poo! First mod would be to lower it and certainly stiffen up the suspension. If you take note on most Golf VR6's, standard ones, the front wheels seem to toe out at the top, front end sits high, reason for the shite handling!
