Ive done it a few times and its a very good way of giving someone cash....instant cash aswell!

Also, account number and sort code is on every statement you get sent or from a machine....no way can anyone remove cash from an account with only that.

I use online transfers all the time. It's perfectly safe -- like someone said it's only information you have on cheques etc etc... It's no where near as risky as using your debit card in a petrol station -- damn thieving *£&%

...and I'm sure Munchie wouldn't mess you around. If he does, I'll send Ian round

The best you can possibly hope for is to recall the money back from the transfer but there's normally a time frame in which this has got to happen, its normally not an issue as cross-bank the money takes longer to clear than the recall timeframe but at the same bank the money appears instantly.

It differs from bank to bank exactly how long you get to cancel the transfer and get your money back.

Worse case is you need to leave the money alone for a day and see if it stays there or don't deal with dodgy scousers.

You can also make up a blag card with the sort code and account numbers and get some fake id in the same name, and go and try and withdraw some money over the counter while being filmed on the bank security system. Thats a couple of years for fraud, mind.

With sort code and account number you can only put money into an account

You would need the long number on her card to be able to withdraw anything

Incorrect, you need this on a card, along with some id that proves that you are the account holder and you can withdraw cash over the counter at any bank. I wouldn't give it out to just anyone but this is a long shot of course.

I'm told that some banks will just take a signature - no card, no ID!
