I'm fed up with the Astra, so am looking at getting another car (non-turbo) in the new year..

It's got to be more practical (have 2 kids) than the Astra, and should ideally save me some money. The Astra has cost me mega £££'s.

Here are my first thoughts..

My budget will be about 7.5k at most, can easily get an M3 Evo for that and I do love them but they all have over 100k miles, that really puts me off them.

If your going to buy an M3 Evo avoid high milers like the plauge (tappets WILL be worn at 100k miles)

And make sure the Vanos unit has been replaced as these will fail...

Are you aware of the servicing costs of them too??

I'd deffo have a look at the ATR's
Avoid the M3 if your looking to cut your current running costs, I was told to allow at least £2-3k for maintenance costs per year

2-3k is excessive (unless doing 30-40k miles a year) or the Vanos gives up!

Vanos unit alone costs £1500 to replace

Id probably say Accord too, there is a guy on the Type R forum who runs LOOOTs of nitrous in a new shape ACR and its a beast!

Yeah brothers got one, they are such good all rounders and yeah they handle amazingly, meant to be one of the best FWD handling cars, my mate used to have one aswell and he went on a track test day thing drove the astra tubby ATR and an alfa 156 2.5 v6 (b4 GTA was out) said the ATR was the best handling, quickest and best all rounder

CTR BUT its less practical than your coupe IMO as the drivers seat doesnt swing forward an the rear seats r cramped and the windows r very high up so kids cannot c out of them

Your bro got a new shape jobbie?
he has too much money!

They do handle very well for a FWD car, but the integra wins the best one IMO. For its size, it probably is the best FWD car about!

As for handling better than a huuge Vaux, and a V6 Alpha.... well what did he expect!

100k is breaking in mileage on a Beemer, if it's been well maintained and has a service history go for it!! if it hasnt leave well alone

Veccy GSi good cars

Corsa GSi XE - small lightweight powerfull still have some fun when you aint got the kids (my choice of car)

Mondeo St220 - ford well what can you say, they arent as powerfull as ford claim they are about 15-20bhp down on claimed output (allegedly) and you might pay £7.5k for one but by the time you sell it you'll get about £2k for it

Nah it's 2001

Ifd you look at the competiton for that size fwd car though (alfa and astra) it wins hands down

100k on an M3 evo is bad news even if it has been maintained meticulously, still a great car, but your gonna need a big wallet to look after a high mileage evo

better off with a normal M3, no double vanos to fail, slightly less high revving, and easier to drive power delivery... plus slightly cheaper running cost
