People don't understand that when you tune the engine torque figures can go up or down - take the powercap for example. You may gain a few bhp using one on the engine, but you will loose out on torque. Also, just because Vauxhall say thier engine produces x ammount of y doesn't make it the case...

Though, saying that and looking at the spec, that figure doesn't seem right...

adding something like carbs and runnin that kinda power surely the torque should be much higher... or something is majorly wrong there i think

Maybe 175 and he hit the 4 instead of the 7 on the numberpad. Who knows.

You'd expect torque to be a little higher, But He's probably running the head on the limit of the hydrolic lifters. won TB's the engine power would jump to around 225-230BHP, which is beign lost just through haing the carbs. So as a result the very lumpy cams are pullign torque down.
Also Carbs don't really fuel correctly at every point like mapped TB's would so the engine maynot be getting the fuelling spot on through the middle and hence the lower torque if it's over fulling a bit. But the peak power seems right.
I think the engine is worth that money. You'd have to had SBD a good deal more than that to get close to that

Does a standard XE produce 150lb/ft @ 7500rpm though?

i only had 129lb/ft.... and 165bhp.... its to do with the torque spread....
BHP = (torque X rpm) / 5,252
145x7500 / 5252 = 207.1
