Anyone know the answer to this, have to know for my assignement. My guess is that it offers more support, meaning the crankshaft is less likely to get bent?

Anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers

better balanced

order on a 4cyl engine would be
(B = Bearing, C = Conrod)

B-C-B-C-B-C-B-C-B

jyst holds it better & more support...

at a guess

4) The main benefits of having 5 main bearings in a crankshaft are that they keep the it well supported, ensuring that the pressure put on it from the pistons stops it being from bent. The more places the crankshaft is supported, the more force can be placed upon it. Having five main bearings is also more balanced on a four cylinder engine:
B = Bearing, C = Conrod

B-C-B-C-B-C-B-C-B

cheers guys

Also less paracitic loss through the crank as less deflection of the crank will occur, in theory.
Which reduces bearing wear aswell as the force is disperssed across a wider surface area. And it will brace the block better aswell, making the whole assembley stronger.
