Help! My lil bro has just passed his driving test and is trying to get insured.
He hasn't brought a car yet.

Quotes so far with Admiral:

Vauxhall Nova 1.2 SX: £2500 tpft!!
Fiat Panda 1.0 CL : £1500 tpft

Both cars worth £300. Both with Mum as named driver.

Is it best to go under our mums name for the first couple of years.

I personally went under my mums name till I was 19. Thats cos I wanted fairly quick cars though.
He doesn't give a sh*t, just needs transport.

I would advise to just go under your parents for the first year at least unless someone else is payin, i cant afford to insure my 1.2 16v sxi under my own policy cheapest quote i got was just over 2K fully comp mods declared with pass plus! fook that im payin 470 under my mum fully comp mods declared, i waiting till im 19 to start my own policy.

pass plus does do a bit of help but not much if your modded or modding! personally the best insurance companies for standard cars with young drivers are norwhich union and apparently direct line are good but this is only if you have pass plus, if your young and wana drive modified go under you parents, or even better blag em to pay if theyre rich enough?!

(i would like to say at this point my parents arent rich and have not paid my insurance or for my car for that matter)

Norwich Union, Direct Line, Tesco and Churchill are about the cheapest. 1st car i insured in my own name was a 1.1 106. Cost me 1k when i was 20. I was using my Mums insurance before that.
