is it a 1.6 or 1.4? 16v?

1.4 - yeah just the pipe apparently - the cunt from the A A was sayin ye might need to take the top of the engine bit to get to it.

am hopeless wit engines

If you mean the plastic air intake that goes to the throttle body you dont need to take the top of the engine off. Just move the alternator, disconnect it from the throttle body and pull.

A hose will be disconnected or perished I think. To get to it remove coolant tank and plastic air intake.
