After three years at university boozing and living off reheated kebabs, now I have the job I want (its also 9-5 which is good) and I am joining the gym tommorow to wake up my organs and limbs.

Im 6'1, 11 and a half stone and my BMI is spot on. However I get out of breath easily and look skinny which I hate. Im sure some of you guys on here are fit and know a little about fitness and I would just like your input regarding this. I may as well be accurate in my aim, I dont want to be Jeff Capes I just want the figure and fitness level of say a Division 2 footballer which I cant see being an overly massive goal?

So what is a good idea when I start going to the gym after work, how often should I go and what should I do? I find running the streets boring but would use a treadmill. I have some weights in the loft and might start swimming. However, would weights and treadmill be a good combination?

Also, what kind of time frame could I be looking at before I feel I have more energy and notice some results. Sorry if this is a long post, just want to be descriptive thats all. Cheers for reading anyways.

i used to go on mon, wed and fri. Concentrating on differant body parts thus giving them time to rest.

I try to go 2/3 times a week, spend about ten mins on treadmill rower and bikes, thats 30 mins, then about another 30mins in weights side, doing mostly upper body and arm wieghts as the fitness side works my legs enough. But i tell ya a div 2 footballer will be fitter than u will ever be

I find that going every other day is good, it gives your body time to rejuvinate, and you are ready to go at the next session. Running for twenty minutes on the treadmill at a speed you feel comfortable with is a good idea...dont over do it though, only do what you can manage otherwise you wont want to do it again. Same with weights...but push yourself more each time, stop when you cant lift them anymore. Free weights is more beneficial for muscle building than using resistance machines. Hope this helps.

Best thing to do is have your induction, and at the same time get a personal fitness programme, this will help as you wont be doing shit you dont need to be doing.

Every 4 weeks re evaluate the programme as your levels and needs may have changed.

I run 6 miles 3 times a week and go to the gym to build muscle 2-4 times, depending on what shifts i m working.

Diet is one of the most important things to keeping yourself healthy

its not so much the boredom factor as it is people starring etc etc
