The police are bringing in a new state of the art system to allow insurance checks to be run on any car by the road side.
The checks will allow the police to check if modifications such as, body kits, larger non standard wheels, bigger brakes, lowered suspension, larger exhausts etc have been declared on your policy.
They have trialled it in Cardiff, Weston and Cheltenham and it has been very affective in catching insurance fraudsters.
With over 75 convictions to date and so far 18 cars have been crushed and 32 seized.
REMEMBER
IF YOU ARE DRIVING IN A CAR WITH MODIFICATIONS THAT ARE NOT DECLARED, YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE ANY TIES TO PAY OUT IN THE EVENT OF A CLAIM. YOU THEREFORE ARE INSURANCE LESS AS THE POLICY IS VOID.
Certain companies will allow body mods but no engine mods and yes that includes exhausts for all you CIS people.

This could never happen because there's so much margin for error with:
1) What the owner knows about his own car and is declared (ie, non-standard but still Vauxhall alloys).
2) What the owner knows is standard and is declared, but the Police don't (ie, irmscher optional wheels)
3) Insurance companies rarely have a provision for highly modified cars, even if you go through to their specialist department. They just end up ticking the box marked "air filter".
