What does all the P words mean on the connectors? i.e. P8.

I have just wired it up so there is plenty of space etc -- i.e. cables not everywhere.

I've never come across this before

P = power , i think

I've been in PC manufacturing for over 10 years and they've always used it.

P1 up to about P12.

Cheers mate

I was assuming that P1 meant that that cable was the first one on the chain and to use that for the more powerfull items but then when i look at them it'm not in any order -- i.e. There is a P1 (motherboard cable) but then it jumps to P3 and then P8. Doesn't make any sence to me.

I have build around 10 systems in the past 5 years but this is the 1st time i have seen this

the P1 is always the big 20 pin main power connector for the motherboard.

The likes of IBM and Compaq use the numbering to ensure all their PC's are built the same ie P3 always plugs into the HDD, P4 always plugs into the FDD, etc etc
