anyone ever done it. a mate was tellin me last nite thet you can do it by putting cling film over your lights and grill and then carefully add the fiber glass and glue etc or wateva you do. anyone eva done this?
and can it be done by smoothing the backs of light brows then attacthing them to bonnet and flushing them smooth.

Not heard of that but i suppose it is possible, if it were me id take it to a pro to be done

and id weld metal bits on rather than making it of fiberglass, as it will crack easily

you need to weld matal plates on not fibreglass it.

oh rite, do i weld the plates on 1st then fiberglass it or not
id like to take it to body shop but wudnt mind having a go myself as its a spare bonnet i have and i need to get it resprayed. its either i badboy this bonney and get it resprayed or buy a new bad boy bonnet

weld the plates on first, matt fibreglass then apply a skim of filler.

i'd use no thicker than 2mm plate and they need to go from point to point on the bonnet.
make a card template first then transfer them onto steel.

bloke who does all the cars round here always f/g's bad boy bonnets, he never welds them
saves a lot of time and can be just as stong as metal

BUT there is more possibility of it cracking, as fibreglass expands and contracts during heating a cooling at a different rate to steel.

but 2 bits or metal side by side will not expand/contract at the same rate either
this guy is in his late 40s now and has been doing things like this for 30 odd years, started life building full size airplanes and has been doing VW campers and bugs etc on the side for years untill he set his own custom 'shop up
has a porche engines camper van and VW buggie with scissor doors and mental wheely bars etc that he made himself

I was just thinking that you could run into the same problems that you do when fitting fibreglass bonnet vents, thats all...

the bad boy on me green car was done by putting tape over the lights to build them up a few ml, then cling film over then fibreglass then smoothed with filler after! and 10 months latter there are no cracks in it at all! i am suprised and if i knew how to weld 10 months a go i wud have welded plates in, iaz

Do you need to shape the metal after its cut, like bend it in a slight curve like the bonnet does.

i thought that aswell which is why fiber glass wud be easier to use but tho it does have its problems as mentioned above
