The Subaru Impreza is available in Japan from 1993 onwards. There are a number of different models available in both the Saloon and Coupe versions.
The 4 Door Saloon is available in engine sizes from 1.6 upwards with the basic models only having two wheel drive.
But the exciting stuff begins with the 2 litre WRX Turbo which ranges in power from 260 BHP up to 285 BHP depending on the year of the vehicle. This compares to a perfetic 207 BHP from a UK spec example.
It is very important to point out that if you are looking to buy an Impreza for its performance, Jap spec is the only option for acceleration and excitement. The UK version just lacks the edge the extra power from the import supplies.
The car is also available in the STi models which range in power from 285 BHP to 320 BHP depending on the year.
The new shape STi Version 7 from Japan can have as much power as 320 BHP standard, whereas the Limited Edition UK Spec Impreza STi 300 or even Prodrive versions do! nt exceed an embarrassing 265 BHP.
All Cars come with electric windows, electric retractable mirrors and air conditioning.
The new shape models also come with excellent Kenwood head units as standard.
The STi having a MD/CD unit.
All versions of the STi also come with an intercooler spray, which helps to increase performance at higher.
The new shape STi also comes with an automatic Intercooler spray button, allowing you to get the most performance out of your car, whilst being able to keep 100 percent focus on the world as it flies by considerably faster than normal.
Japanese mileages are amongst the lowest in the World, it is not uncommon to find a 1993 car with only 30,000 KM on the clock. Vehicles are far better maintained ! in Japan than in the UK or US as the M.O.T. (shaken test) requires higher standards of servicing and maintenance.
