Right, for those of you who dont know my current situation. My bro-in-law has gave me his given me his old Golf GTI 8v and its in perfect working order, just needs tailgate and new door and full respray.

Ive been pricing a full respray and have quotes ranging from £600 - £2500. I originally wanted it Green but Im told that its better to stay near to the original colour incase of stonechips showing red through the green.

Ive spoken to a reputable firm through contacts in work and they have quoted me £1500 which will include all the panels taken off and sprayed, glass removed, propper prep work with a good basecoat and a high gloss finish.

A local cowboy said he would do it for £600 but would only mask up the glass and wouldnt do the inside of the car, eg showing sills etc.

Should I save for a lil longer and get it done propperly or just get it done for £600?

How much have people paid in the past for what quality of work?

Get it done properly mate, youll enjoy it more when its done this way. Id still be tempted to go for the green you wanted too.

Dont get a bodge job done, it will look terrible

I'd save the cash and get it done propper so you can show that classic off with maximum respect!

I only payed 500 for my respray but thats only because i know the guy who owns the bodyshop

Dont fecking talk to me about insurance. I have a 1993 MR2 which my mum has possession of coz I cant afford to insure the fcuker over here in Spideland. ( I hate Twocers) Im never selling it though, its in showroom condition. I aint ever gonna sell the Golf either, two collectors cars as far as Im concerned.

I was out drinking with mates in town a couple of years back and we were swaying to and frow at 2.00am eating what was supposed to be a big Mac (as you do when trolleyed) And I can remember we were admiring this nice Mk2 in that colour of green. It was just clean and tidy and really good looking. Then 3 Lads came walking accross to it and got in. Started up Vrrooooooommmm Tisssssshhhh, Burble burble, then tore up off the road at a rate of knots. I was impressed.

Fanks for the advise guys. Im gonna wait. Im also thinking theres no point in insuring it before im 25 in Sept. The money Id save would nearly pay for the respray.
